Strategies to Motivate Your Child to Learn
Letting your child learn through Homeschooling in India is one of the most important gifts you can give them. As we all know, knowledge is power, but sometimes as children grow older, their responsibilities also grow with them. They might feel a little drained out and demotivated from their studies, especially when your child is studying from home due to the pandemic. As parents, it is a responsibility to give their children a bit of motivation to push them forward and this reminds them that knowledge cannot only be acquired within the classroom but also from the outside world. Although, as parents, what can you do to motivate them to learn or study? Please remember that forcing your child to do something they don’t feel like is not motivating. Understanding the core line between motivating and forcing is very important!
Here are some tips to help your child be motivated to study better!
What’s holding them back? – The first thing you should do is understand what’s stopping your child from learning or studying. Finding out the root cause of the problem can help you devise a plan and understand their situation better. They might feel demotivated for a lot of reasons such as low self-confidence, anxiety about school; changing environment and lack of understanding about a particular subject.
Let your child in the driver’s seat – Give your child challenges and ways to become their problem solver. Stopping them time and again from doing something is only going to lower their confidence. Give them challenges that are exciting, fun and also related to the topic they are studying. This way they are not only motivated to try new things but also are learning the lessons they get from it.
A Study Plan – I’m sure even as an adult striking things you’ve completed in your study planner gets you the best feeling ever, right? Imagine how motivated your child would be to finish his/her to-do study plan list. Making a study plan together will help them focus more and keep them on track with things going around in their academics.
Different types of learning – Learning is not supposed to be limited to mugging up things and giving exams. As parents, you shouldn’t let your child just mug up things instead change their learning style according to their capabilities! For example, Some children can grasp more visually while others are more into auditory. If your child is young then it’s best to try out different learning styles.
Encouragement Exercises – Along with academics your child must also be doing physical activities. Physical activities will help your child focus more and be more active in their day-to-day activities. Even a simple stroll around the block during a study break is a terrific way to get the blood flowing to your child’s brain and avoid frustration and exhaustion.
